BIOGRAPHY
Christoph Rode is a contemporary painter best known for his rich tableaus – in color and in content – of intertwining realities. He creates complex compositions and multidimensional scenarios of postmodern fragments in an almost horror vacui setting. Headless figures populate these surreal stages, resulting in an eclectic yet homogenous end result.
Rode works from found imagery. Most often, the German artist recuperates fragments of images from Eastern Germany, dated between 1950 and 1990. The vintage suits, dresses, furniture, carpets and wallpaper indicate the imagery is rooted in the 20th century. However, the painterly process and overall esthetics are clearly time bound to the 21st century, as his meticulously rendered paintings seem to go beyond any time-period or era. Christoph Rode’s works tackle the contemporary man, as well as universal issues rooted in the human condition.
Christoph Rode (b. 1984, Berlin-Marzahn, Germany) resides and works in Berlin, Germany. He was trained as a graphic designer and took on painting in 2004 when he moved from Strausberg to Berlin. Ever since, the German artist has participated in numerous art fairs, art events, solo and group shows in Germany and beyond, exhibiting in Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and the United States of America. Rode was invited for the blockbuster exhibition New Perspectives in Painting at the Museum of Modern Art, Junge Kunst Berlin, in Hünfeld, Germany. He has also participated in the 2017 Urban Art Biennale for UNESCO Welt Kulturerbe in Völklingen/Saarbrücken, Germany, and the XXI. Internationale Rosa-Luxemburg-Konferenz in 2016 at the Urania-Haus in Berlin, Germany.
